During these challenging times, it is important to ensure that pupils eligible for free school meals can continue to access support if they are not in school. If schools cannot provide meals or food parcels through their current food provider, they can provide supermarket or shop vouchers to eligible families. Full guidance is available here.

A national scheme has been setup in partnership with the Department for Education and Edenred UK. Your school can access an online portal, Compliments Select, to issue supermarket vouchers to those families.

How does it work?

Your school administrator will have received a welcome email with instructions on how to access the system, with a detailed user guide.

Compliments Select enables you to issue an ‘eCode’ by email to eligible families (a 16-digit number with a value attached). Parents or adults with caring responsibilities for the eligible child can then go online to redeem the eCode against a choice of eGift cards (a digital gift card delivered via email) which currently includes the following food retailers:

  • Morrisons
  • Tesco
  • Sainsbury’s
  • Asda
  • Waitrose
  • M&S food
  • Aldi
  • McColl’s (including RS McColl’s and Martin’s)
  • Iceland
  • Company Shop Group

There are also offline options available for parents or carers without an email address, or access to the internet.

The Covid Summer Food Fund

The Covid Summer Food Fund will provide support for children who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals (FSM) over the summer holiday period. Please refer to the Department for Education guidance here.

Each eligible child can receive a £90 eCode to cover the summer holiday period. Schools must order the eCode at least one week before the school term ends and it will be issued to the parent/carer within seven days unless you have specified a distribution date further in the future. We recognise a single £90 eCode may not be suitable for all families and schools have the discretion to schedule a number of smaller eCodes instead, if they see fit.

In all circumstances, an eCode must be issued to the parent/carer before the end of the school term. This will enable staff to identify if a family hasn’t received their eCode and resolve the issue before the holidays begin. If smaller vouchers have been scheduled, the last of these must be delivered by 14th August.

You simply place your order via the Edenred system in the same way as you place orders for Free School Meals, using your existing account.
